A Final Look Towards 2013

21 12 2012

Alhamdulillah…..May Allah blesses us with a good strength and health! I’m still here to continue my cake stories again after a really really long silence!!!

There are many things to share since I didn’t come up for a long time and please do apologies me……and sometimes I’m wondering, is there anyone keep on waiting for my updates lately? Hihihi……

We’re not just in school holiday’s mode right now– enjoying days with celebration, parties, weddings and weekend outings, but also in the midst of 2013 preparation and plans. To dear parents, don’t miss the ‘back to school grand sales’ as the school will open soon.

As I take a look back on the past months??? – It’s a year dear!!…hahaha…, I cannot believe how busy and fulfilling it has all been. There have been sleepless nights, a sinking-ship home with cake parts all over the house, stressful night deliveries and having unhealthy schedule meals and I believed it was a memorable part in life with the family!

A great thanks to my encouraging friends and loyal customers who stays alert with Cakestories and keep on coming back with more orders, and also to those who pass my name introducing this bakery!

Last but not least, thank you to Mr.Asben and kids (big enough now to help me) during packaging and for helping me out to clean the entire messy-dessy kitchen! Muuaaahh…..

As I end 2012, do enjoy the pending posts from the first cake of the year…..

Sept onwards – I had only limited pics as there were mostly repeated orders  of dinosaur egg muffins, mini pavlovas and  layered cakes.

It’s time to have it again – Mini pavlova

22 12 2011

Hi guys! New year is just around the corner…and school holidays is coming to the end….huhuhu….I’m gonna miss my kids ‘messy corner’ when school re-open…and a new life begin where the routine starts….arrrgghhh.

I am a very super duper bz mom this month to catch-up with orders but I’m still the best cook for ‘my houzmates’ arrr……..It’s really hard to make everyone likes what we’ve made…each of us have different taste, different perception and different preference. We had this pavlova again last weekend, but this time i make it more crunchier which makes the inner quite chewy, and personally i think our adults out there would not have this which makes it stick in your teeth…hahaha…..And for my eaters at home, they love the soft inner and more marshmallow like which makes it gone and melt in your mouth in a second!

I tried to make it into smaller bites for those who want to have it during lunch-break hours in the office, gifts or  a treat and the result’s…..Alhamdulillah, nothing changed and i guarantee, it will be the chosen one!

Enjoy the pics and thank u for the order uncle Ihsan! Hope your family enjoy it.

Here comes to my mini pavlova…..yummy! yummy!

Mini Pavlova will be pack individually secured in a dome casing.

Red & Black Mini-cakes

5 12 2011

Another set of mini-cakes waiting to be touch-up by these ‘gebu’ fingers…hehehe. Ideas by ideas passing by after receiving a call from my close fren-Pn.Sabariah, requesting a special gift wedding hantaran for her nephew. Tq again and again for the order and for being loyal to cakeStories!

I put on all my effort to make this happen, keep reminding myself that good food comes from the heart! Red carpet and black formal dresses…..does it look good enough? I believed, combination of the best colors will make it a delight for both the taste buds and the eyes. First and foremost, i really enjoy what I’m doing…..For both the bride and bridegroom, this is the first step into a real live journey together and my doa….put all the warmest love and caring together till end.  Amiin….

I made her poppy-butter mini cakes (heart-shape). This is what it looks like before it dress-up.

First time using a homemade glassy look-like cakeboard……just want to make it different from others.

After decorated with black roses and daisies…..(ade ke black roses ek??….layannnn je larr)

Love u forever……huh! very romantic nyerrr….

At last……..

Pavlova – sweets for my sweets

5 12 2011

I’ve heard this name  several times but never tested,  heard the taste was the most mouth watering of ever and UN-explainable dessert and when you have it, you’ll be out of this world! Really???!!!…..so it’s the best time to try it. hohoho

Pavlova is named as a tribute to a Russian ballerina, Anna Pavlova, who toured NZ and Australia in 1926. Actually it is a dessert or after dinner sweet-treat which made of meringue with a crisp crust and soft-light inner (marshmallow-like…..mmmm for me, it tastes better than marshmallow), topping with sour fruits and whipped cream.

I should make it more crunchy and crispy as what the recipe does, but we’re too eager and can’t wait for an hour to have it.

I welcomed this “ms. Pavlova” from my kitchen for our dessert last weekend….whoa!whoa! Unbelievable…… Just imagine an 8″ pavlova gone within ~15 mins by 4 of us!!??? Alhamdulillah, it’s really, really the best and the simplest dessert I’ve ever made and for all my readers out there, i’ll share the recipe here. Try it and you’ll deserve it; or just grab and pay for it at cakeStories  if you are lazy enough to make it……hahaha

Pavlova (modified recipe):

Ingredients:

  • 4 egg whites (XL)
  • 100g of fine granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp of  lemon juice
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp of pure vanilla extract
  • 250ml of whipping cream
  • Fresh fruit (strawberries/ raspberries/ kiwi/ peaches/ blueberries)
  • **** salt & lemon juice used to change the substitute of cream of tartar****

Preparation:

  1. Preheat the oven to 275F (140C). Line a baking tray with baking paper. Set aside.
  2. Beat the egg whites on medium speed. Beat until the whites form soft peaks.
  3. Gently sprinkle the sugar into the egg whites, one teaspoon at a time. Don’t just lump the sugar in the bowl and never stop beating the eggs until you finish the sugar. Your egg whites should now be glossy stiff peaks.
  4. Sprinkle the salt on the meringue and fold in gently with a plastic spatula. Add the vanilla and lemon juice, gently fold the mixture again.
  5. Now gently spread the meringue and make a circular base (~8inch)  on the baking tray. Make sure the edges of the meringue are slightly higher then the center so you have a very slight well in the middle.
  6. Bake the meringue for about 1 hour till turn to brownish or egg shell colour.
  7. Before serving, take the meringue out of the oven and remove it gently and place on a plate.
  8. Whip the cream and spread the cream on top of the meringue.
  9. Arrange the slice fruits on top.
